One postdoctoral position is available
in the laboratory of Dr. Keith Nehrke at the University of Rochester
Medical Center. The focus of the laboratory is on integrative physiology
using C. elegans as a model system. One of the main goals
of the project will be to determine how acid-base transport and
pHi influence the cellular and trans-cellular signaling pathways
that regulate metabolism and aging. In particular, we are looking
for someone with a background in genetics to pursue a suppressor
screen of the Na+/H+ exchanger isoform nhx-2(-) larval arrest deficit
(Nehrke, 2003), as well as an epistasis analysis of cell signaling
and pHi regulatory processes. At least a working knowledge of molecular
biology is required. The project will provide in turn the opportunity
to learn real-time imaging techniques for following electrolyte
and calcium flux in live worms.
Rochester is a midsize Northeastern town on
the shores of Lake Ontario, and with the beautiful Finger Lakes
less than half-an-hour away, it’s a great place to live life
and raise a family. The University of Rochester Medical Center is
a premier research institute with two brand new medical research
buildings and a robust academic atmosphere.
